I’m sure many people are familiar with that phrase. “The whole 9 yards”. But I wonder how many people actually know where that saying comes from. I thought it had something to do with football lol
actually it is referring to the us navy hellcat fighter airplane that had 6 .50cal guns which the ammunition belt loaded onto it contained 400 rounds and the belt was 9 yards in length.
So if I pilot unloaded all he had into a target or enemy plane he was giving them the “whole 9 yards”
